Chiropractic is a system of health care that is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health by removing interference (subluxation) from the spine and nervous system. A subluxation is a disturbance of proper neural function that compromises organ function and general health. Chiropractors direct controlled and specific forces (adjustments) into the spine to remove subluxations thereby allowing the body to heal.

Chiropractic is the third largest healthcare profession in the western world (behind medicine and dentistry) There are an estimated 50-70 thousand chiropractors worldwide. Chiropractic is practiced in over 50 countires worldwide and there are over 20 colleges in ten countries. Most of these countries have legislation that covers chiropractic.

Chiropractic does not involve Drugs or Surgery and many people seek chiropractic because they do not wish to take drugs. Often the need for medications decreases with chiropractic care. Even though chiropractic is not an alternative for medicine many conditions improve when nerve interference (subluxation) decreases and people have been saved from surgery by chiropractic care. | |

One of the biggest misnomers in modern society is the term 'HealthCare'. Most Healthcare is actually disease care, just as most prevention is actually early detection. Medicine treats disease while chiropractic treats the person, who may or may not have a disease. Subluxation is involved in many disease processes, and subluxation correction can have beneficial effects on disease. The purpose of chiropractic is to help the body heal from within rather than treat disease directly. |

In most countries it takes at least four years full time study to degree level or higher to become a chiropractor. Many chiropractic courses are as involved as medical courses with the emphasis on chiropractic techniques and away from drugs. |
